Clydesdale Bank Plc is a commercial bank based in Scotland the bank is a member of National Australia Bank Group which has 12.7 million customers internationally. The bank was founded in Glasgow in 1838, with the vision that it would be “chiefly a local bank – having a few branches – but correspondents everywhere”.
The initial creation of the bank was described as “a group of Glasgow businessmen of middling order, liberal radicals … who were active in the government and charities of the city”.
Yorkshire Bank also operates as a trading division of Clydesdale, which is the smallest of the three Scottish national banks. Furthermore, the company retains the right to issue its own banknotes.
